Personal profile

Research interests

My research focus is on risk perception and risk communication, i.e. how people process and deal with health (risk) information and make decisions, and factors affecting perception and decisions (e.g. trust). I am head of the interdisciplinary research group RISC Amsterdam. This research group is internationally prominent and in the Netherlands the leading research group on perception and communication of health risks. Research is on perception and communication with the public and patients about health and safety risk in order to foster informed judgment and deliberate decision making about e.g. prenatal screening, cancer screening, cancer treatment, vaccination, environmental risks in collaboration with societal and professional partiners (e.g. GGD, RIVM).
