Research interests

Childhood trauma has been increasingly recognized as a prominent risk factor for mental disorders occurring across the life span. However, the understanding of how childhood trauma increases one's vulnerability for future disorders is currently limited. Hence, within the Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA), we aim to determine psychosocial-behavioral and biological childhood trauma's mechanisms to understand the enduring consequences of trauma on mental health outcomes in adulthood.
