Prof. F.G. Schaafsma is an endowed professor in occupational medicine at the Amsterdam University Medical Center. She is a practicing occupational health physician and director of the outpatient clinic occupational medicine (Polikliniek Mens & Arbeid) at the Amsterdam University Medical Center. Her research focuses on protecting the health of all workers in various industries, and on stimulating optimal working life for workers with chronic illness. Prof. Schaafsma has expertise in quantitative research such as evaluating interventions in occupational practice using a randomized controlled design, and in qualitative research such as focus group sessions to evaluate the process of implementing new interventions. Prof. Schaafsma is firm believer that close collaboration between occupational medicine specialists and clinical specialists can improve the care and health of workers. Besides her interest in various types of chronic illness and the impact on working ability, she is very interested in work related diseases such as burnout and workrelated stress.
