Personal profile

Research interests

Silvia Klokgieters works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science (former Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics), Amsterdam UMC.

Her main research topics are:

  • Cohort differences in socioeconomic inequalities in health
  • Health and wellbeing of older migrants
  • Resilience in vulnerable older adults
  • Mediation analysis

Silvia is involved in research of the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA) and the ZonMW project which is titled ‘Cohort differences in psychological, social, and behavioural explanations of socioeconomic inequalities in health and mortality’. LASA is an cohort sequential population-based study that focuses on predictors and consequences of ageing among a representative sample of the Dutch older population (www.lasa-vu.nl). The ZonMW project aims to answer the question of why socioeconomic inequalities in health have been so persistent across generations. Silvia obtained the PhD in 2019, which covered the topic of resilience among older Turkish and Moroccan migrants.  Silvia is member of the LASA mental functioning and social functioning groups. In addition, she is a member of the IMISCOE standing committee of ‘older migrants’.
