21 patients with vitiligo were treated by local application of 0.2% betamethasone 17-valerate in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO, 43% in a cream base) during 4 months. Symmetric patches were treated only with DMSO in the cream base. The results were very satisfactory and demonstrate that local application of betamethasone 17-valerate can induce repigmentation of vitiligo patches. © 1973 S. Karger AG, Basel.
